FLORIENTAL 2024

「岩絵具」

The mineral pigments (iwaenogu) are reduced to fragments with coarse or fine grain size: depending on the size of the fragments, the color will be more intense or more subtle. In order for them to adhere to the paper support I have chosen (German or Japanese), the pigments must be mixed with an animal-based glue (nikawa). With the brush, several successive layers of color are spread. At the end of the entire painting, I superimpose layers of lacquer.

Iwa-enogu is a pigment made from ground minerals, and the manufacturing country varies depending on the color.
